Common questions
What chores are age-appropriate for kids?
Ages 4-6: tidy toys, make the bed, feed pets. Ages 7-10: wash dishes, sweep, take out rubbish, help cook. Ages 11+: laundry, clean rooms, run errands, wash the car. Match chores to what your child can do safely.
How much should I reward each chore?
Small, regular amounts work best. Many families use a few shillings per chore that add up over the week. Set rewards you can sustain, and consider a small base allowance plus chore earnings.
Should every chore be paid?
Many parents keep some chores as just part of being family (unpaid) and pay for extra effort. That balance teaches responsibility and earning at the same time.
