Brown's Cheese Farm

Brown's has been making cheese on this Tigoni farm since 1979, and the tour takes families through the make-room and the ageing caves, past a cheese-making demonstration, to a tasting of their many varieties. Kids get the theatre of curds being cut and stirred, plus the bakery, gardens and farm animals around the property. Lunch is unhurried, fresh and mostly grown a few metres from the table.

How a family visit works

1. 1Book the Tigoni tour in advance. They do not take walk-ins, and the drive is wasted if you guessed the time.
2. 2Go through the make-room: curds cut and stirred, then the ageing caves, then a tasting of the cheeses. That sequence is the visit.
3. 3When a child is done with dairy, peel off to the bakery, gardens and farm animals still on the property. You do not need everyone at every tasting note.
4. 4Stay for the garden lunch. With demo, tasting and food, this fills a half-day, not an hour between errands.

Will a five-year-old be bored by cheese?
