Holiday Outing Planner
Ten weeks of holiday, 26 October to 1 January. Tell us where you are spending it, your kids' ages and what you can afford, and get outings that fit, from free parks to big day trips.
Gate costs are estimated bands at the child citizen rate. Adults often pay more, and prices change. Check before you go.
How the planner picks
The same steps you would follow with a notebook, done in a second.
Fits every child
A venue only makes the list if your youngest child is old enough for it. Places your oldest might find too young drop down the list.
Fits the budget
Your gate-fee budget is split across the outings. Free places always qualify, and the cheaper ones rise when money is tight.
Mixes it up
One museum, one park, one animal visit, not four malls. Very long days drop down the list when the youngest is under six.
Free and low-cost outings by region
Free places and those under about KES 500 a child (our estimate), from the Tija Kids venue list.

Questions parents ask
When is the December school holiday in Kenya in 2026?
Term 3 closes on 23 October 2026 and the December holiday runs from 26 October 2026 to 1 January 2027, about ten weeks, per the Ministry of Education 2026 calendar. KCSE exams run from 2 to 20 November, so some schools stay busy. Confirm the dates with your own school.
What can kids do for free in Nairobi during the holidays?
Free picks in our Nairobi list: Nairobi City Park, The Hub Karen, The Waterfront Karen and Uhuru Gardens Memorial Park. For a small fee (under about KES 500 a child by our estimate) there is also Bomas of Kenya, Bounce 'n' Play, Fourteen Falls, Giraffe Centre and Jump Xtreme.
How much does a day out with kids cost in Kenya?
By our estimate of child gate rates across 96 family venues, 8 are free, 43 cost under KES 500 a child, 38 cost KES 500 to 1,500 and 7 cost more than KES 1,500. Adults usually pay more than children, and transport, food and snacks often cost more than the gate itself, so the planner adds a spending-money line on top.
How can my child help pay for holiday outings?
Give each outing a small spending-money amount (a snack or a souvenir) and let your child save it before the holiday from pocket money or paid chores. The planner works out the weekly amount. The free chore chart sets what each chore pays, and the Tija Kids app tracks the savings goal as your child earns.
Are the prices in the planner exact?
No. They are estimates in bands (free, under KES 500, KES 500 to 1,500, over KES 1,500) based on the child citizen rate, and gate prices change, especially at Kenya Wildlife Service parks. Check the venue before you go. Every pick links to a venue page with directions and tips.
Let them earn the outing.
In Tija Kids you set chores with a reward, your child saves toward the outing fund, and you both watch the goal fill. Free on Android.
