Kit Mikayi

Seme, near Kisumu Open daily

Kit Mikayi is a striking natural tower of huge boulders balanced on each other outside Kisumu, a national monument whose Dholuo name means 'the stone of the first wife'. Local guides tell the legend behind it and lead the short scramble up to viewpoints and the caves between the rocks. It's a quick, memorable stop that mixes geology, story and a bit of climbing.

Good to know: Take one of the guides at the base — the legend is the reason to come, and they know the safe way up.
