Kisumu Museum

How a family visit works
- 1Go to the National Museums of Kenya compound in Kisumu town. Pay at the desk and ask which outdoor exhibits are open that day; the homestead is sometimes the first thing they point you to.
- 2Walk the recreated Luo homestead before the indoor galleries. Kids remember the houses, granaries and layout more than display cases, so do this while they still have patience.
- 3Move inside for the ethnographic and natural-history rooms. The small aquarium of Lake Victoria fish is the usual reset for younger children who have had enough of labels.
- 4If live animals or outdoor cages are in use, do a short circuit and then leave. Ninety minutes is a full visit; there is no need to force every gallery.
- 5On a wet morning this is the indoor half of a Kisumu day. Pair it with Impala Sanctuary or Dunga only if the rain has actually stopped.
