Kerio View
Perched on the escarpment above the Kerio Valley near Iten, Kerio View offers some of the most dramatic vistas in Kenya, looking out over the vast valley to the hills beyond. It's a popular launch point for paragliders, and families can simply enjoy the viewpoints, fresh air and a meal with a million-shilling view. An easy, scenic stop on a North Rift road trip.
Good to know: Bring a jacket — the escarpment can be cool and breezy even on warm days.
How a family visit works
- 1Drive from Eldoret toward Iten and the Kerio escarpment. Park at Kerio View. This is a viewpoint-and-meal stop on the edge of the valley, not a ticketed hiking park.
- 2Walk the viewpoints with a firm hold on younger children. The drop is the attraction. Paragliders launch from this escarpment on flyable days; watching them is optional and you do not put kids on a tandem unless a licensed operator separately books that, which most families will not.
- 3Eat with the view if the kitchen is open. Two hours covers photos, a walk along the rim, and food. It is a road-trip pause, not a full wilderness day.
- 4Bring a jacket even if Eldoret town felt warm. The escarpment wind is real.
- 5Younger children who fear heights can sit back from the edge at a table. They still get the vastness; they do not need to stand on the lip.

- Family visits are for the view. Tandem flights, if they happen, are a separate booking with a licensed operator and their own age rules. Do not treat the restaurant deck as a launch queue for kids.
- Is there a crater hike?
- No. This is an escarpment lookout. For a volcano climb, that is Longonot, a different mountain near Naivasha.
