Poa Place Resort

Kapseret, Eldoret Open daily

Poa Place in Kapseret is Eldoret's best-known family resort, combining a small zoo, children's play areas, a swimming pool and gardens with restaurants and live entertainment. It's set up for a full day of low-key fun, with enough variety to keep mixed-age kids busy. A dependable choice for a family outing in the North Rift.

Good to know: Pack swimming gear — the pool is usually the kids' favourite part.

How a family visit works

  1. 1Drive to Kapseret on the Eldoret side and park at Poa Place. This is a family resort day: mini-zoo, play areas, pool, gardens, food. Pay at reception and ask which zones are open; entertainment listings change.
  2. 2Start with the small zoo while energy is high, then let children live in the play area or the pool. The pool is usually what they refuse to leave.
  3. 3Break for a meal on site so you are not packing wet children into town traffic at noon. A full visit runs about three hours; mixed ages will split naturally between animals and water.
  4. 4Toddlers can skip the zoo cages if they only wanted the pool. Older kids can skip the playground if the animals were the point. You do not have to do every corner.
  5. 5Pack swimming things even if the forecast looks ordinary. Confirm pool rules (caps, age, depth) at the desk rather than assuming.

What kids actually do here

  • A small zoo you can walk without a safari vehicle
  • A swimming pool that holds the afternoon
  • Play areas for the child who did not come for animals
  • Gardens and food on the same compound
  • An Eldoret outing that does not need a national-park plan

Before you go

Let your child save up for Poa Place Resort

Entry here is under KES 500 a child (our estimate). In Tija, kids earn coins for chores you set and put them toward a goal they pick, like this outing, then watch it fill up as the chores get done.

Free to download on Android. On a computer, Google Play can send it straight to your phone.

What to pack

  • Swimwear, towels, and a dry change
  • Sunscreen and flip-flops
  • A long-sleeve layer for after the pool
  • Snacks if you want them in the car; otherwise eat on site

Parent questions

Is this a wildlife sanctuary like Impala in Kisumu?
No. It is a resort with a mini-zoo and a pool. Come for a play day, not a conservation briefing.
Do we need to stay overnight?
Day visits are the usual family pattern. Overnight is only if you already wanted a resort night; it is not required to use the zoo and pool.

Hours, tickets and activity rules change. Confirm the current details on the official site or at the gate before you travel.
