Nguuni Nature Sanctuary

Nguuni Nature Sanctuary is a peaceful expanse of restored grassland near Bamburi, home to giraffes, ostriches, elands and oryx roaming freely. Families can walk the trails, picnic, and often feed the giraffes, with plenty of open space for kids to run. Its quiet, uncrowded feel makes it a lovely alternative to busier coast attractions.

How a family visit works

1. 1Drive to Nguuni near Bamburi. It is restored open grassland, quieter than Haller, with giraffes, ostriches, elands and oryx moving freely.
2. 2Walk the trails rather than treating it as a drive-through. Families often get to feed the giraffes — ask at entry how that is running that day.
3. 3Picnic on the grass. There is room for kids to run without weaving through a crocodile queue.
4. 4Come late afternoon if you can. It is cooler, the animals are more active, and it works as a sundowner stop.
5. 5Leave before full dark. This is a sanctuary walk, not a night drive.
