Fairview Coffee Estate

Fairview is a working coffee estate in the Kiambu highlands, well under an hour from central Nairobi, that has been growing coffee since 1909. The tour walks families through the rows and explains picking, pulping, fermenting and drying on raised beds, then moves to a roasting hut where you can roast, grind and taste your own batch. Older children come away with a genuinely good lesson in where Kenya's most famous export begins.

Good to know: Tours run at set morning and afternoon times — book a slot rather than turning up.
