Jamhuri Motocross Track

Near Jamhuri Park, Nairobi Lessons by booking; race days on selected Sundays

Jamhuri Motocross Track is the dirt circuit near Jamhuri Park that hosts rounds of the Kenya National Motocross Championship and the East African Motorsports Club's races. On ordinary days it works as a training ground. Offroad Adventure East Africa runs an off-road school that takes children from age 5 on kid-sized bikes, and children on automatic bikes need no previous riding. Smaller riders can also book a 15-minute quad ride (ages 5 to 10). The school trains on its own bikes or on yours, and it charges a separate track fee for sessions at Jamhuri.

Good to know: Ask which venue your session is booked at. The school's office is in Karen and the Jamhuri track fee is on top of the lesson price.

How to join

  1. 1Call Offroad Adventure East Africa on +254 781 958 548 or use the form on their site. Give the child's age and say whether they have ever sat on a motorbike.
  2. 2Choose a bike. The school lends kid-sized bikes (automatic, semi-automatic, KTM 65SX and 85SX, Honda 125). Kids on automatics need no experience.
  3. 3Confirm the venue when you book. A session at the Jamhuri track adds KES 2,000 on a school bike or KES 1,000 on your own.
  4. 4Ask what kit comes with the lesson. Their site lists helmets, boots, gloves, body armour and knee and elbow guards, but does not say whether any is included or hired.
  5. 5Expect the first four sessions to be basics: body position, cornering, braking and throttle control. Ruts, jumps and hills come later.
  6. 6Quad rides are a shorter option for ages 5 to 10: 15 minutes, KES 1,500.

  • Come back on a race Sunday and watch the Peewee class, the youngest riders in the championship

Before you go

Let your child save up for Jamhuri Motocross Track

Entry here is roughly KES 1,500+ a child (our estimate). In Tija, kids earn coins for chores you set and put them toward a goal they pick, like this outing, then watch it fill up as the chores get done.

Free to download on Android. On a computer, Google Play can send it straight to your phone.

What to pack

  • Closed shoes and long trousers at minimum, even if kit is lent
  • A sunhat and a water bottle
  • Clothes that can go in the wash, because the track is dust or mud depending on the week
  • Your own helmet and boots if your child already owns them

Parent questions

How young can a child start?
