Karen Riding School

Karen Riding School on Marula Lane is a long-established, professionally run stables offering instruction across riding, jumping, dressage and even polo, with an all-weather sand arena for lessons. Beyond the arena, it organises trail rides out toward Oloolua Forest and the Ngong Hills for more confident young riders. It's a step up from a one-off pony ride — a proper place to learn to ride over successive lessons.

How to join

1. 1Book a lesson before you drive to Marula Lane. This is a working stables, not a walk-in pony ride.
2. 2On the first call, give the child's age and whether they have sat on a horse before so they can match a suitable horse.
3. 3The yard is open 8am–5pm; lessons sit inside that window. Arrive early enough to helmet-up and meet the horse.
4. 4Start in the all-weather sand arena. Jumping, dressage and polo come later, over successive lessons, if they stick with it.
5. 5Once they are confident, ask about trail rides toward Oloolua Forest and the Ngong Hills — that is a different booking from the arena lesson.
6. 6Wear long trousers and closed shoes or riding boots. Ask when you book whether they provide a helmet (they will tell you the rule).

Can we show up on Saturday for a pony ride?

Lessons are by booking. Call ahead, especially for a first lesson, so they can match your child to a horse.

Is it only the arena?

Beginners start in the sand arena. Trail rides toward Oloolua and the Ngong Hills are for more confident young riders, arranged separately.
