Ngong Hills
Ngong, near Nairobi
Open daily
The Ngong Hills ridge rises just west of Nairobi, a grassy trail running beneath giant wind turbines with the Rift Valley falling away on one side and the city spread out on the other. Families don't have to attempt the full seven-hill traverse — walking up the first hill or two and turning back is a proper outing on its own. Rangers are posted at the gate and walking with one is the norm.
Good to know: It's cold and windy on the ridge even on a hot day — bring layers, water and sunhats, and start early.
