Elsamere Conservation Centre
Moi South Lake Road, Naivasha
Open daily
Elsamere was the lakeside home of Joy Adamson, who raised Elsa the lioness and wrote Born Free. The house is kept as a small museum of her paintings, letters and film, and a short documentary tells the story in a way that lands well with children who like animals. Black-and-white colobus monkeys come through the fig trees on the lawn, and the famous afternoon tea on the grass overlooking Lake Naivasha is the part families remember.
Good to know: Time your visit for afternoon tea — the colobus are usually about in the late afternoon too.
