Ol Donyo Sabuk National Park

Kilimambogo, Thika Open daily

Ol Donyo Sabuk — Kilimambogo, the mountain of the buffalo — is a small, densely forested park rising to 2,145m about an hour and a half from Nairobi. A track climbs to the summit past the grave of Sir William Northrup McMillan, with buffalo, baboons and bushbuck along the way and views to Mount Kenya on a clear morning. Families can drive most of the way up and walk the last stretch.

Good to know: A KWS ranger must accompany walkers because of the buffalo — arrange one at the gate.
