Heated Swimming Pools in Nairobi for Kids

Nairobi mornings are cold for half the year, and an unheated pool in July is how a swimming outing ends in ten minutes of blue lips. Here are the heated pools where children can swim, what a child pays, which ones are indoors, and what lessons cost.

The short answer

  • Cheapest: The Luke Hotel (Roasters, Thika Road) and Avery Lounge (Utawala), KES 300 a child.
  • Indoors, warm in any weather: Diamond Plaza 1 (Parklands), Stedmak Gardens (Langata), Thabiti Fitness Centre (Syokimau).
  • Best for a whole day out: Stedmak Gardens, where the pool sits next to an animal park and rides.

All ten pools and child swim fees

These are relaxed-swim fees, meaning you pay at the pool and swim, no lesson. They come from You-Swim, a swim school that teaches at all ten pools and publishes the rates. Pools set their own prices and change them, so treat the table as a guide to which pools are cheap and which are not, and confirm the figure on the day.

The spread is wide: a family of two adults and two children pays KES 1,200 at The Luke Hotel and KES 3,400 at Diamond Plaza 1 for the same hour in warm water. Add parking and a snack and the cheap pool is still a third of the price.

Indoor heated pools

Heated outdoor pools are often solar heated, and a solar pool on a grey June morning is lukewarm at best. If the swim is for a child who gets cold fast, or for a baby, an indoor pool is the safer bet.

  • Diamond Plaza 1, Parklands. Indoor and heated, close to Westlands and the CBD. The most expensive of the ten for children, at KES 700.
  • Stedmak Gardens, Langata. Stedmak describes it as a heated indoor pool and runs lessons for children and adults; you can bring your own accredited coach. The animal park, rides and a VR centre are on the same compound.
  • Thabiti Fitness Centre, Syokimau. Indoor, KES 500 a child. Handy for families along Mombasa Road.

Kids' swimming lessons in a heated pool

A heated pool matters most for lessons. A child who is cold stops listening, and a ten-class package is wasted if half the classes end early. You-Swim's ten-class kids' packages at these pools include pool entry:

The December holiday runs from 26 October 2026 to 1 January 2027, which is enough time for a full ten-class course with a week to spare. Book early: holiday group slots fill first.

Let them put something towards it

KES 15,000 to 22,000 is a real number. A child who earns even KES 1,000 of it through chores tends to turn up to every class. Work out a weekly amount with the savings goal calculator.

Members' clubs with heated pools

Two clubs say on their own sites that their pools are heated. Neither is a walk-in option.

  • Karen Country Club. A heated pool with separate changing rooms for boys and girls, a bouncy castle and a children's playground, plus swimming lessons and coaching. The club does not say on its pool page who can use it, so call before you go.
  • Royal Nairobi Golf Club. A heated pool for members and their guests. A junior member pays KES 200 a swim and a member's junior guest KES 250. Worth knowing if you have a friend who is a member.

What about Kasarani?

The Kasarani Aquatic Stadium is the national pool and the cheapest place in Nairobi to swim, and it runs affordable learn-to-swim lessons with a separate baby pool. We found no source saying the pool is heated, though, so don't plan a cold-season swim around it. Go on a warm afternoon.

Five things to ask before you drive

  1. Is it heated today? Solar heating drops on cloudy days, and boilers are sometimes off for maintenance.
  2. Is the pool open to the public at this hour? Hotel pools often close to visitors during lessons or private events.
  3. Is there a shallow or baby pool? Not every heated pool has one.
  4. Is a lifeguard on duty? Ask, and still stay within arm's reach of non-swimmers.
  5. What does a child pay, and from what age? Many pools let toddlers in free but define "child" differently.

Questions parents ask

Which heated pool in Nairobi is cheapest for kids?

The Luke Hotel at Roasters on Thika Road and Avery Lounge in Utawala, both at KES 300 a child for a relaxed swim, per You-Swim's published rates checked on 15 October 2026.

Are there indoor heated pools in Nairobi?

Yes. Diamond Plaza 1 in Parklands, Stedmak Gardens in Langata and Thabiti Fitness Centre in Syokimau are indoor heated pools. Indoor pools stay warm on cold, cloudy days, when solar-heated outdoor pools cool down.

Is the Kasarani pool heated?

We found no source, including the swim school that teaches there, saying the Kasarani pool is heated, so do not count on it. Kasarani is still the cheapest public pool for recreational swimming and runs affordable learn-to-swim lessons.

How much are kids' swimming lessons in a heated pool in Nairobi?

You-Swim lists ten-class kids' packages at heated pools from KES 15,000 (Salach) to KES 22,000 (Spur Mall and Diamond Plaza 1), with pool entry included.

Swimming term, paid for with chores

In Tija Kids, your child earns coins for chores you set and saves them toward a goal they picked, like a swimming course or a Saturday at the pool. You approve from your phone; the progress bar does the nagging.
